Elektra was inspired by the cover on the BBC's Radio Times September 1933 issue. Its tenth anniversary saw the magazine’s design draw on the contemporary Bauhaus aesthetic with a boisterous, dynamic front page.
The last Bauhaus school in Berlin was forced to shut in 1933 following the ascent of the Nazi Party. Many artists associated with the school came to Britain in search of safety and work.
The influence of the movement likely seeped into British design, as the Radio Times cover shows. The content of the issue itself reflected that year’s enthusiasm, growth and faith in innovation.
Elektra aims to capture the enthusiasm and dynamism of that time through a contemporary interpretation of the timeless Bauhaus canons, making it an excellent choice to give your text a bold, energetic flair.
